The fourth round of the British trials and Rally Drivers Association Gold and Silver Star series has attracted top class crews form as far as Ireland for the 45 stage mile event.
The Peugeot Sport backed Gold Star event features cars in the two wheel drive Formula 2 category with Burton 0n Trent Vauxhall Nova pilot Simon Chapman keen to extend his championship lead and at the same time make amends for an early exit from last year's event.
The Clear System Solutions Silver Star series features the more powerful and four wheel drive machinery. This is where the likely rally winner will come from and features a whole range of machinery and any one of the top ten are capable of winning the event after the excursion into the daunting Dalby Forest complex, although the local knowledge of Malton farmer Steve Bannister (Mitsubichi Galant) and York drainage contractor Warren Philliskirk (MG Metro 6R4) may prove decisive over the likes of West Auckland's Julian Porter, a strong bet to take his showroom class Mitsubishi Lancer to victory and beat the Yorkshire mafia. This year's event seems certain to end the stranglehold Ford has had on the event since it beacme a forest rally in 1988.
In addition to the main event the rally's seven stages will also be covered by 14 Nissan Micras as the North Humberside Forest Rally also forms the first round of their one-make series.
