Foreword from Mick Linford - Motorsport Manager, Peugeot Motor Company plc.

1998 will be the sixth year that Peugeot Sport has sponsored the BTRDA Gold Star Championship, and each year I re-assess the situation regarding the value to Peugeot and the competitors of our support.

For 1998 it looks to be no different to previous years, it is still the most popular and enjoyable rally championship in the United Kingdom.

The 2 litre formula, coupled with some of the best and most efficiently run forest events in the country, add up to being the ideal package for most competitors.

And, if you compete in a Peugeot, a single cash prize of £5,000 is available should you take the championship title, as well as top three cash prizes on each event for A7 and N1 cars.

Peugeot intends to continue supporting rallying at this level and I believe our involvement with the BTRDA Gold Star Championship is still one of the best means of doing it.

I wish you all am enjoyable and competitive year of motorsport.

The BTRDA Rally Series

Regulations

  1. The BTRDA Ltd. will promote the BTRDA Rally Series consisting of the Peugeot Sport Gold Star Championship and the Clear System Solutions Silver Star Championship. Permit Number 98R 5350 has been issued.
  2. The Series is open to fully paid up members of the BTRDA Ltd. only. Acceptance for the Series will be acknowledged by the issue of a registration card which must be produced at documentation on each event.

Drivers can register for either the Peugeot Sport Gold Star Championship or the Clear System Solutions Silver Star Championship but cannot score points for both championships on any one event.

In order for either to score points both crew members must be registered for the Series and must register with the BTRDA representative at each event. However after Round 5 of the Series registered drivers and co-drivers may compete individually and still be eligible to score points.

Championship results and bulletins containing details of any changes in the Championships will be sent to registered competitors at intervals throughout the year.

  3. The Series will consist of nine qualifying events. A competitor's best six scores from the first eight qualifying events that he, or she starts will count. In the event of the number of events being changed then the number of scores to count may also change.
  4. Championship registration does not guarantee an entry to the qualifying events and BTRDA Ltd. cannot enter into any correspondence or discussion on the matter of event entries or event seeding. However Championship events have agreed to consider any fully completed entries from BTRDA registered competitors provided they are received one month before the date of the event.
  5. All vehicles used by registered contenders may be subject to random capacity and eligibility checks throughout the year. These checks will be carried out by the Series Scrutineer and/or members of the RACMSA Technical Commission who shall be considered Judges of Fact in matters of eligibility. In the event of a car being found ineligible for any reason, then the penalties specified in the RACMSA Regulations shall apply. The competitor will be responsible for any costs he incurs as a result of eligibility checking, whether found eligible or otherwise.
  6. The Event organisers will appoint Judges of Fact to adjudicate on any instances of instantaneous factual occurrences or any other abnormal sound levels. They will then report their findings to the Chief Scrutineer of the Event who will advise the Clerk of the Course who will apply the appropriate penalty. Competitors should pay particular heed to RACMSA Yearbook clauses C.11 and C.12.2.
  7. Competitors must display the decals supplied by the BTRDA Ltd., Mintex, Motoring News and any other Championship sponsors on all qualifying events.
  8. Any ties will be decided in favour of the competitor with the greatest number of maximum scores in their best six scores in the Series. In the event of a further tie the greatest number of second highest scores shall decide and so on. Should this fail to resolve the tie then reference will be made to the scores gained on ALL the qualifying rounds. If this fails to resolve the tie then joint awards will be presented to the competitors concerned.
  9. The Series is subject to the General Competition Rules of the BTRDA Ltd. and the RACMSA. Any query concerning these regulations or the running of the Series must be referred to the BTRDA Rallies Committee via the Championship Co-ordinators. Any subsequent protest must be referred in writing to the BTRDA panel of stewards via the General Secretary with time limits in accordance with the RACMSA Year Book.
  10. In the event of a variance between these BTRDA Rally Series Regulations and the BTRDA Championship Rule Book, these Rally Series Regulations take precedence.
