There was nothing in any of the holiday brochures we saw that said anything about snow in Somerset in the middle of April! Nevertheless, there will be a large number of people reading this bulletin who can confirm that the area was thus affected during the Gliddons Somerset Stages Rally. One of the was Andy Burton who overcame the conditions - and a bad back! - to take his second win on the event, ahead of Michael Watson, but fourth place was more than enough to keep Pete Littler at the head of the Clear System Solutions Silver Star points table.
Martin Sansom guided his Peugeot 106 to its second consecutive maximum points in the battle for Peugeot Sport Gold Star Championship points after a close tussle with Simon Chapman in his Corsa Maxi. However, another good run sees Rob Palmer take over at the helm in the table - his Ford Escort 'kit' car is currently 20 points ahead of the Honda Civic of Daniel Dunbabin who led the chase during the early stages in Somerset, before a misfire served to slow him up.
There is also a change at the top of the Clear System Solutions Team Challenge - Messrs Sandy Smith, Martin Healer and Rob Davies may well be saying 'Oh Dear!' as they have been knocked off the top spot by Pete Littler, Richard Roberts & Martin Meadows who all form part of the 'On-Site Rally Team'.
Meanwhile, there is a tie for the lead of the Dunlop Two-wheel Drive Challenge - Stephen French & Andy Madge are neck-and-neck, although French has reached this hallowed position with just three scores, whilst Madge has finished all four rounds to date.
