Wold Construction North Humberside Forest Rally 2007

Press Release 5

CHAMPION'S HOME RUN!...

20th March 2007

The Wold Construction North Humberside Forest Rally moves to a new base in Whitby this year, which will suit former Mitsubishi Evolution Challenge winner RYAN CHAMPION down to the ground - he lives there!...

With LOUISE SUTHERLAND installed in the co-driver's seat of his Mitsubishi Lancer for the day, Ryan will lead the main event away from the start at West Cliff, but such is the strength of the entry that he cannot expect to have things all his own way!

The rally is the third round of the Silverstone Tyres BTRDA Rally Series and, as crews head for Whitby on Friday 30th March, HUGH HUNTER/ANDY MARCHBANK lead the race for the coveted title in their Ford Escort WRC. Behind them, four-time winners of the event, WARREN PHILLISKIRK/EURIG EVANS (MG Metro 6R4) start ahead of the Vodka-Kick liveried Ford Focus WRC of STEVE PEREZ who has yet to nominate a co-driver.

Last year's North Humberside victors, STEPHEN PETCH/MICHAEL WILKINSON (Hyundai Accent WRC) take the No.5 slot, while the runners-up in the 2006 MSA Asphalt Rally Championship, TONY DAVIES/PATRICK WALSH (Subaru Impreza WRC) are tackling their first 'gravel' event of the season as they look to gain valuable points in the BTRDA 'Mixed Surface Challenge'.

Meanwhile, the first car away from the start at 9.00am on Saturday 31st March will be the Proton Satria of NEIL WEAVER/NICK THORNTON. These two took the 2006 1400 Championship by storm, not only winning the series with a 'full house' - six maximum scores - but also with three events still to run. While not defending their title this time, they must nevertheless be regarded as a serious threat on the day.

Current 1400 Championship leaders, CLIVE WHEELER/KEN BARTRAM (Citroen C2), will be relishing the opportunity to extend their advantage on the long, fast stages on the North York Moors.

The Wold Construction North Humberside Forest Rally takes in 45 competitive miles, contained in just four special stages, and will present crews with some of the most demanding motorsport they will experience during the season.

Spectator Information and PROVISIONAL Top Tens are attached to this bulletin.
